Greg Horvath for Airport Board

Let's keep Truckee Airport small.

  • Charge private jets their fair share
  • Support local pilots
  • Make property tax dollars work for the entire community

Greg’s Priorities

Multiple channels means multiple opportunities to get your pitch in front of the people who matter.

Noise

Living in Sierra Meadows, I'm reminded daily of longstanding community concerns around noise from planes flying low over homes.

Progress on noise management requires pilot education, technical solutions, and navigating the FAA regulatory environment. The current board has made great progress on noise and I plan to continue that work.

Property Tax Allocation

The airport district expects nearly $9 million in property tax revenue this year. These funds can be used to expand airport infrastructure, which will increase jet traffic and noise, and reduce neighborhood safety.

I will advocate for maximizing funding for initiatives that benefit the entire community such as wildfire mitigation, educational programs, & local nonprofits.

Environment

Lead pollution from aviation fuel is a problem for our health and the environment.

California is moving forward with a historic transition to require non leaded fuels for aviation.

I will strongly advocate for early adoption of non leaded fuels at Truckee Airport as well as broader efforts to reduce environmental impacts from airport operations.

Safety

We see one local plane crash per year. Safety must drive all board decisions.

Some airport investments increase safety while others may increase safety but primarily increase capacity. Critical review of all airport projects and their impact is imperative.

“Greg understands the community’s concerns around noise, safety, and growth. I trust him to navigate the challenges of working with numerous stakeholders and to be a community advocate.”

Background

After moving into Sierra Meadows, we quickly learned first-hand the impact airport noise and safety have on the community. Then a friend invited me to an airport board meeting.

The Truckee Airport has become a contentious intersection of several interest groups operating within a complex regulatory framework. In the last several months I have met with every Airport Board Director, the General Manager, local pilots, local business owners, and local community members.

I’ve learned a lot, both about the great work already being done by the Board, and the risks and opportunities that lay ahead. I was also inspired to be a community advocate and run for election.

As a past founder/business owner I am experienced with multi-million dollar budgets, working with a board, and getting things done. I am grateful for you taking the time to read this and humbly ask for your help in supporting an airport district that benefits the entire North Lake / Truckee community.
